Conference overview
This conference will provide attendees with basic through advanced training theory and methods through lectures and workshops. Attendees will learn how positive training methods can be applied to zoo and aquarium animals, laboratory animals, farm animals, and pet animals to enhance their care and welfare. Site visits to the zoos and aquarium will provide first hand experiences with trainers and animals with live demonstrations of training and enrichment. In addition to tours and workshops, the conference will include 20-minute formal presentations, plus posters, and video sessions. Submissions will be considered for inclusion in the conference proceedings for the benefit of other animal professionals. The conference will focus on animal enrichment and positive reinforcement training as tools for better behavior management of animals in any setting.
Guest Speaker
Our keynote speaker will be Karen Pryor, author of ¡°Don¡¯t Shoot the Dog¡±, ¡°On Behavior¡±, ¡°Lads Before the Wind¡± and numerous other publications on animal behavior and training. Karen Pryor is a scientist with an international reputation in two fields, marine mammal biology and behavioral psychology. Through her work with dolphins in the 1960¡¯s she helped pioneer positive animal training methods. She is a founder and leading proponent of clicker training, a worldwide movement involving new ways to communicate positively with pets and other animals. She is the founder and CEO of a behavioral publishing company, Sunshine Books, Inc., and its on-line divisions. You can learn more about Karen Pryor at www.clickertraining.com
